Guys and Dolls

Guys and Dolls is a classic, feel-good musical comedy set in the bustling streets of 1950s New York City, where gamblers, chorus girls and dreamers cross paths in a world full of charm and mischief. At the centre of the story is Nathan Detroit, organiser of the city’s oldest established floating crap game—who desperately needs a new location before the police catch up with him.

To raise the cash, Nathan bets high-rolling gambler Sky Masterson that he can’t persuade Sarah Brown, a straight-laced missionary devoted to saving souls, to go on a date with him. What begins as a simple wager soon spirals into an unexpected romance, as Sky and Sarah discover they have far more in common than they ever imagined.

Meanwhile, Nathan’s long-suffering fiancée, Miss Adelaide—a performer at the Hot Box nightclub—is determined to finally tie the knot after 14 years of engagement, leaving Nathan juggling his love life, his gambling buddies and a whole lot of trouble.

Filled with unforgettable characters, witty dialogue and classic hits like “Luck Be a Lady” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” Guys and Dolls is a timeless celebration of love, chance and the vibrant heartbeat of New York.

SOS performed Guys and Dolls at The Core Theatre (previously Solihull Arts complex) in 2014.
