Return to The Forbidden Planet
Return to the Forbidden Planet is a high-energy, sci-fi rock ’n’ roll musical inspired by Shakespeare’s The Tempest and the cult 1950s film Forbidden Planet. Set aboard the starship Albatross, the story follows the unsuspecting Captain Tempest and his eclectic crew as they are pulled into a mysterious meteor storm and marooned on the remote planet D’Illyria.
There, they encounter the eccentric scientist Dr. Prospero, his robot servant Ariel, and his brilliant and beautiful daughter Miranda. As secrets unravel and danger looms, the crew soon realises that the planet—and Prospero’s experiments—harbour powers far beyond anything they imagined.
Packed with classic rock ’n’ roll hits, witty Shakespearean twists and larger-than-life characters, Return to the Forbidden Planet is a gloriously fun, feel-good adventure through space. Blending comedy, music and retro sci-fi charm, it’s a wild intergalactic journey guaranteed to have audiences dancing in their seats.
SOS performed Return to The Forbidden Planet at The Core Theatre (previously Solihull Arts complex) in 2011.
