Made in Dagenham
Made in Dagenham is an inspiring, heartfelt and sharply funny British musical based on the true events of the 1968 Ford sewing machinists’ strike. The story follows Rita O’Grady, a working mum whose life takes an unexpected turn when she becomes the unlikely leader of a group of female factory workers fighting for equal pay.
When the women discover they are being classified as “unskilled” and paid far less than their male counterparts, Rita finds the courage to stand up, speak out and challenge both the Ford management and the government itself. As tensions rise at work and at home, Rita must balance her newfound activism with the realities of family life—proving that ordinary people really can change the world.
Filled with vibrant characters, uplifting music and a powerful message about equality, solidarity and determination, Made in Dagenham is a joyous celebration of the women whose actions sparked a national movement and reshaped history.
SOS performed Made in Dagenham at The Core Theatre in 2018.
